Iran’s former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been disqualified from running in next month’s election.
The Guardian Council decided on Thursday to disqualify Ahmadinejad, who registered as a candidate last week in a surprise move. It did approve the candidacy of Hassan Rouhani, the current president, as well as that of Ebrahim Raisi of the opposition.
The Iranian interior ministry said it would announce the final list of candidates on Sunday.
