Today (Thursday), Al Jazeera news responded to Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu’s threat to close its Jerusalem office and said that it won’t stop covering the events in the Palestinian territories and will turn to the court if necessary.
The Qatari media network stated that it “denounces such arbitrary accusations and hostile statements” and that Netanyahu’s comments are “yet another episode of the ongoing vicious attack” against Al Jazeera.
According to the statement: “The network moreover reiterates that it will continue covering the news and events of the occupied Palestinian territories, and elsewhere, both professionally and objectively.”
Netanyahu’s criticism deals mainly with the network’s coverage of the Temple Mount crisis. “Al Jazeera won’t stop inciting violence,” he wrote on his Facebook page. “I made several requests to close the its offices in Jerusalem. If this does not happen due to legal interpretation, I will work to legislate the laws required to remove Al Jazeera from Israel.”
