The online retail giant has officially launched local operations in Israel.

Israeli businesses with a registered Amazon business account have been given permission by Amazon to list their products on the site with a new ‘Local Delivery’ option. This mandates the seller to have the item delivered to the buyer within 5 business days.

Israeli’s may be dismayed that there has been no announcement that Amazon has set up their own warehouses and logistics centers. This would give Israeli’s the ability to enable Amazon Prime membership and all the benefits it entails.

But not to worry!

According to Globes, this is always the first step Amazon takes when entering a new market such as Australia, India, and now in Amazon Turkey. After this initial stage, depending on practicality the online retail giant will open up their own warehouses and logistics centers.

Unsurprisingly, after the news broke shares belonging to local shopping malls have fallen on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.
