Israeli Defense Minister’s Advisor on Settlement Affairs Kobi Eliraz reported to his superiors that he was forced to defend himself from pushing and even suffered from verbal abuse from some of the citizens of the Amona settlement as a result of the upcoming evacuation.
Eliraz is considered a supporter of settlements. The advisor told his superiors in the Defense Ministry that he was invited by Amona citizens to meet in a café near the settlement in order to discuss the situation.
He stated that one of the settlers shoved him forcefully: “I asked him, ‘man, what’s wrong? Have you gone mad?’”
He described the scene, explaining how some of the settlers told him: “You’re just a clerk, a loser who does his masters’ bidding.” The incident went on for 2 hours, after which Eliraz reported to his superiors. In a later discussion, Eliraz claimed that if Amona will not receive a compromise, the evacuation will become violent. He also criticized the settlement’s leadership and stated that “it isn’t behaving appropriately.”
