An Arab Israeli man is under arrest for contacting a Hamas terrorist on Facebook. The case has been kept under a court-issued gag order since February.
The 23-year-old was indicted for contact with a foreign agent on account of his multiple Facebook conversations with Murad Rajabi, a Hamas activist who was released from Israeli prison in 2011 as part of a deal to free captive IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.
The two chatted frequently for a period of two weeks, during which Rajabi asked for several people’s names and addresses, seemingly for the purpose of trying to recruit them to Hamas.
The suspect also faces charges of incitement to terrorism for a number of social media posts in which he praised Hamas and encouraged acts of terror against IDF soldiers.
