During an interview with a Russian TV network, Syria’s first lady Asma al-Assad, claimed that her husband’s enemies have offered her the prospect of fleeing Syria in order to harm him. However, in response she said that she has not left Syria since the war began.
Today (Tuesday) during an interview with a Russian TV network, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s wife Asma al-Assad claimed that she has been offered to escape the war-torn country in the past. According to the Syrian first lady, her husband’s enemies presented her with the opportunity to flee Syria in order to upset him and lower his country’s confidence in him.
During the interview, British-born former investment banker Mrs. al-Assad asserted that she has not left the country since the beginning of Syria’s civil war. Mrs. al-Assad refused to name the sources that attempted convincing her of leaving the country, calling the proposals “stupid.”
“I’ve been here since the beginning and I never thought of being anywhere else at all,” said the 41-year-old Syrian first lady. “Yes, I was offered the opportunity to leave Syria or rather to run from Syria. These offers included guarantees of safety and protection for my children and even financial security. It was a deliberate attempt to shatter peoples’ confidence in their president.”
