Yesterday morning world Jewry was cast into mourning after a gunman killed one and injured three at the Poway synagogue in California.
Killed in the attack was sixty-year-old Lori Gilbert-Kaye, and the three injured were Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, Almog Perez and his 8yr old niece who were visiting from Israel.
The man placed in custody is John Earnest.
The authorities are looking into an online manifesto published by Earnest on the 8chan messaging board approximately two hours before he carried out the deadly shooting.
In the manifesto, Earnest describes himself as a 19-year-old nursing student and a native to California. He attributed his inspiration for the attack to Brenton Tarrant, who last month killed 50 people at two mosques in New Zealand last month; and also to Robert Bowers who killed 11 people in an attack at the Tree of life synagogue in Pittsburgh.
His visceral hatred towards the Jewish people was very clear as he ranted about blood libels, control of the economy, media, the murder of Christ, and that the Jews were planning a genocide against the European race.
He asserted that there are three paths to protect the European race; spread the truth, have children, and defend the race. Earnest placed himself in the last stratum, by claiming that he was not seeking power or fame, rather he was doing it to inspire others.
The shooter also wrote that he started planning the attack four weeks ago.
“Four weeks. Four weeks ago, I decided that I was doing this. Four weeks later I did it. I remember a specific moment in time after Brenton Tarrant’s sacrifice that something just clicked in my mind. ‘If I won’t defend my race, how can I expect others to do the same?’ I immediately got to planning, and I never looked back. I never had doubts. I never felt afraid. I never felt anxious—just the occasional nervous excitement,” Earnest wrote.
