Police investigators arrived at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s official residence in Jerusalem on Monday morning for another round of questioning in Case 4000. Netanyahu’s wife, Sara, and the couple’s son Yair are being questioned simultaneously at the Lahav 433 offices in Lod.
It is expected that this round of questioning, the second for the Netanyahu couple and the first for their son, will focus on the initial testimony of Nir Hefetz, the former senior aide in Netanyahu’s Communications Ministry who turned state witness earlier this month. Police investigators are also planning to question Bezeq controlling shareholder Shaul Elovitch and his wife, Iris, at the Lahav 433 offices while the prime minister’s wife and son are there.
Case 4000, also known as the Bezeq Case, is the latest scandal in which Netanyahu’s name has come up. The affair involves suspicions that Elovitch directed the Walla! news site, which he owns, to cover Netanyahu and his family in a positive light. In exchange, during his time as Israel’s communications minister, Netanyahu advanced policies that financially benefited Elovitch.
According to Hadashot news, Netanyahu is expected to claim that he did not give regulatory benefits to Elovitch in return for positive media coverage. He is also expected to tell the investigators that he was unaware that his wife was exchanging text messages with Elovitch’s wife.
The Israeli news report added that the prime minister’s wife will likely claim that she was just complaining to her friend about the coverage of her family on the Walla! news site.
