A security camera near the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris caught the moments when a man attacked a police officer earlier this week on tape. In the video, the attacker is seen sprinting toward a group of police officers and attacking one of them with a hammer.

A 40-year-old man of Algerian descent was shot after he attacked police officers near Paris’ Notre-Dame Cathedral in the beginning of the week. On Thursday, Paris police released the footage of the attack and the police officers’ reaction.
In the video, the suspect is seen sprinting toward a group of officers who were standing together. The suspect had a hammer in his hand and started to attack one of the officers, causing him to fall to the ground. After the officer collapsed, the suspect continued to attack him with the hammer. Seconds later, the other officers opened fire on the suspect, injuring him.

French Interior Minister Gérard Collomb said shortly after the attack that the suspect was screaming “this is for Syria” as he attacked the officer. The police officer sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment at a local hospital.
Europe is on high alert following the deadly terror attack in London on Saturday evening. Eight people were killed and over 40 were injured by three terrorists in the attack.
