The leader of the terrorist group Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, said during a recent rally that he is is not making a peace deal with Israel
Anyone who says “there is an agreement or understanding with the occupation is lying,” Sinwar said, Haaretz newspaper reported.
The Hamas leader spoke during a rally held east of Gaza, near the border with Israel, during last Friday’s weekly ”Great March of Return” demonstrations.
Sinwar added that while there was no emerging agreement with Israel at this time, Hamas is establishing “understandings” with Egypt, Qatar and the UN “to lift the blockade on Gaza.
He also said that the Israeli blockade on the Strip, which began 12 years ago, “is beginning to disintegrate”.
The Hamas chief’s statement contradicts recent reports in Israeli and Arab media about progress in Egypt-mediated talks between Israel and the Palestinians.
