After two months, Kala Brown was rescued by South Carolina police from Todd Kohlhepp, a serial killer who held her as a sex slave after kidnapping her and her boyfriend in August 2016. After Kohlhepp pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison, prosecutors released the harrowing footage of her rescue yesterday (Saturday).
In November 2016, 30-year-old Kala Brown was rescued by police from inside a storage container where she was being held by a serial killer on his South Carolina property. Yesterday (Saturday), prosecutors released the chilling footage of her rescue in which police can be seen breaking into the container and finding Brown sprawled on the floor and chained to the wall.
Todd Kohlhepp, who confessed and pleaded guilty, was sentenced to life in prison without parole as part of his plea deal. In addition to confessing to kidnapping Brown and killing her 32-year-old boyfriend Charlie Carver, Kohlhepp confessed and plead guilty to murdering six others. Two of his victims’ bodies were found buried on his property. Now that Kohlhepp has been sentenced, the prosecution is releasing material evidence gathered throughout the investigation.
The woman’s rescue footage begins with police arriving at a locked storage container from which screams of a woman can be heard. The authorities attempted to break through the locked door using chainsaws for 10 minutes before they managed to open it. The armed detectives cautiously entered the container at the end of which they found Brown with ragged clothes and chained by the neck to the wall.

However, Brown’s boyfriend, who was kidnapped with her two months beforehand on August 31, 2016, was nowhere to be found. When asked where he was, she replied that Kohlhepp had killed him.
“Todd Kohlhepp shot Charlie Carver three times in the chest [and] wrapped him in a blue tarp,” Kala told detectives. “[He] locked me down here. I’ve never seen him [Carver] again. He says he’s dead and buried. He says there are several bodies dead and buried out here.”

The story of Carver and Brown’s disappearance is as dramatic as the moments of her rescue. The two were missing for several weeks and their friends and family had no thread of information. Suddenly, Carver’s Facebook page began updating. His statuses about disappearing became stranger from time to time and his family began to suspect that something was off. Only after the police were able to figure out what happened to the couple, the family started to understand why the posts on Carver’s Facebook were strange.
