IDF Deputy Chief of Staff Maj.-Gen. Eyal Zamir  has said the army is focusing on maintaining its ability to defend the State of Israel and deal with the virus internally, without being dependent on the civilian sector. Currently, he said, one of the army’s main missions is to assist in the national effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

There are currently 150 active corona cases in the IDF, and some 2,900 soldiers are in isolation, and between 25 to 75 news corona cases in the army every day.

“At the beginning of the first wave we had the ability to conduct 300 corona tests a day. Today we can conduct 1,000 a day, and soon we will have the capability to conduct up to 2,000 tests a day. The IDF also provides a hotline which soldiers can turn to with questions about the pandemic, or to schedule a test, he said.
