The conflict between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Education Minister Naftali Bennett is escalating. The Ha-Bayit Ha-Yehudi chairman commented on his party’s demand for changing the way the Security Cabinet members receive updates and are informed about important information and declared: “I will continue to fight and protect the IDF soldiers.” A senior level Likud official said: “Bennett wants Netanyahu to fold, this won’t happen.”

Today (Sunday), Bennett commented on his party’s demand to appoint a special military secretary to the Security Cabinet and threatened Netanyahu: “I will continue to fight and protect the IDF soldiers and Gaza envelope residents from wherever I will be, in the government and outside of it.”
“10 years ago, I was sent with thousands of combat soldiers to the Second Lebanon War by a Security Cabinet that didn’t know the purpose of the war and didn’t understand what it was voting on,” added Bennett. “When I got out of the war, I vowed to never allow this to happen again.” However, according to Bennett, the situation was similar during Operation Protective Edge because the Security Cabinet members were unaware of the tunnel threat until he brought it to their attention.
Earlier today, Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked clarified that Ha-Bayit Ha-Yehudi will not back down from the party’s demand. Shaked also added that Ha-Bayit Ha-Yehudi will not hesitate to take the necessary measures. “We will vote against [Avigdor] Lieberman’s appointment as defense minister even if it will lead to new elections,” said Shaked. “We do not think that it should come to this but it is a possibility.”
Shaked argued that this demand did not appear out of nowhere: “Bennett turned to the Prime Minister many times. He always said he would take care of it but it never happened. Therefore, we were forced to demand it as a precondition. We will vote against the new layout of the government if our demand is not met.”

Likud members responded today to the recent statements made by the Ha-Bayit Ha-Yehudi members. “The rhetoric of Ayelet Shaked on behalf of Bennett is intensifying the situation,” said a senior level Likud official. “Bennett wants Netanyahu to fold and this won’t happen. It is true that Bennett’s slogan ‘no jobs just human lives’ puts us in a bad situation, even though this is far from the truth. If we need to, we will have another election, he [Bennett] is no threat.”
