New Orleans Pelicans player Bryce Dejean-Jones died at the hospital after being shot in the stomach at an apartment building in Dallas. The shooter told police officers that he shot the NBA player because he entered his apartment by kicking open his door and did not identify himself.

At a Dallas hospital last night (Saturday), New Orleans Pelicans player Bryce Dejean-Jones (23) succumbed to his wounds after being shot in the stomach. According to the Dallas resident who shot Dejean-Jones, the NBA player broke into his house by kicking open the front door.

The apartment owner, who was in his bedroom, called out to the intruder but received no answer. When he saw Dejean-Jones in his apartment, he shot him immediately. Dejean-Jones was critically injured and rushed to the hospital.

“It is with deep sadness that the Pelicans organization acknowledges the sudden passing of Bryce Dejean-Jones,” the New Orleans Pelicans said in a statement. “We are devastated at the loss of this young man’s life who had such a promising future ahead of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bryce’s family during this difficult time.”

Dejean-Jones’ agent Scott Nichols said: “Bryce overcame a lot of obstacles to get to this point in his career. He was a great player and an even better person. It’s unfortunate because he was just turning a corner in his career.”
