At least 90 people were killed and 105 injured in a deadly train accident near the city of Kanpur in Northern India. According to railway officials, the train, which was headed from the city of Patna to the city of Indore, derailed for reasons not yet known.
Indian Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh announced the national disaster response team has initiated search and rescue operations at the scene. “(An) enquiry team will start investigation for cause of accident immediately,” Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted: “My thoughts are with the bereaved families.”
