Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot released a statement regarding the confession of Brigadier General Ofek Buchris from earlier this week. “The offenses Buchris confessed to doing didn’t have and will not have a place in the IDF, not in active service or in the reserves,” said Eizenkot. In regards to the sentence, Eizenkot said: “I trust the military judicial system.”

IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot commented for the first time on the Brigadier General Ofek Buchris since the senior-level officer confessed earlier this week: “We won’t look away, we won’t let go and we won’t hesitate to take drastic measures even in cases involving leading officers of the IDF regardless of their rank, accomplishments or success. None of those are relevant in situations such as this.”
As part of the plea bargain that is being finalized, Buchris will be convicted of sex crimes and confess to having intercourse and other forbidden encounters of sexual nature on several occasions with one of the plaintiffs. The IDF stated that Buchris will be convicted as well of behavioral misconduct in light of his actions towards another plaintiff.

“The offenses Buchris confessed to doing didn’t have and will not have a place in the IDF, not in active service or in the reserves,” said Eizenkot. “The military investigation and judicial system operate with absolute independence and professionalism and so they operated in this case and I trust their judgement. We will continue making sure the independence of the military judicial system maintains itself with no outside influences.”
“It is our duty to make sure the IDF soldiers, male and female, will feel safe during their service and will not be exposed to crimes of misconduct and this is the spirit with which we will continue to operate with. The IDF is an army of merit and values, it is the center of consensus within the Israeli society. We will do anything to maintain the fighting spirit and values of the IDF.”
