Among the 12 people killed in Monday’s plane crash in Costa Rica were an entire Jewish-American family of five from New York.

Bruce Steinberg, his wife, Irene, and their three children, Matthew (14), William (19), and Zachary (20) were killed, along with another American family of four, when their charter flight crashed in a wooded area just minutes after takeoff.

Rabbi Jonathan Blake of the Westchester Reform Temple said Bruce and Irene were philanthropists and were very active in the local Jewish community.

“This tragedy hits our community very hard,” Blake said on Facebook.
