Several hours after Russia’s Ambassador in Turkey Andrey Karlov was assassinated, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called Russian President Vladimir Putin to brief him on the situation.

Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they will not allow this act to ruin the relations between the two countries. US Secretary of State John Kerry and the Defense Department strongly condemned the assassination and added that the US will assist in the investigation. Kerry stated that the act was an “assault on the right of all diplomats to safely and securely advance and represent their nations around the world.”
