Today (Saturday) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the US to cooperate with him in the fight against ISIS and said that with the US President and his military, he could launch a major offensive.
Erdogan stressed that the joint operation’s objective, if carried out, would be to attack Raqqa, the ISIS capital in Syria. “Huge America, the coalition and Turkey can join hands and turn Raqqa in to an ISIS graveyard,” he declared at a press conference in Istanbul. Erdogan’s administration is calling on Washington to stop supporting Kurdish fighters as allies in the struggle against ISIS.

Erdogan is expected to raise the subject during his first meeting with US President Donald Trump in two weeks in Washington. The Turkish president also said he would present Trump with alleged proof that the Kurdish forces are terrorist organizations.

The Kurdish forces Erdogan is referring to were recently involved in military activity that killed more than 40 ISIS members in an attack on Raqqa carried out by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with Kurdish support, over the last 24 hours. According to reports, the SDF managed to take control of a number of neighborhoods outside the city of Raqqa.
