The European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights will hold a special discussion later this week regarding the status of Israeli Arabs in Israel at the request of the Joint Arab List political party.

The debate will feature two MKs who will argue opposing claims: Yousef Jabareen of the Joint Arab List and Yaakov Perry of Yesh Atid. According to Jabareen, the discussion will focus on the Knesset’s controversial legislation in the past few years, especially the Nationality Law.

The Joint Arab List requested that the subcommittee hold the special discussion after a delegation of its members visited the EU headquarters a few months ago. The visit was condemned at the time by Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, who called it a “diplomatic attack” on Israel.
