At least seven people were killed when an explosion took place at a crowded market in Lahore, Pakistan, today (Thursday). At least 25 people were injured in the blast. The market is located in one of the city’s upscale neighborhoods.
Initially, it was unclear whether the explosion was set off by a bomb and meant to be a terror attack. Initial reports indicated that the blast occurred when an electricity generator exploded. However, the local police department eventually revealed that the explosion was caused by a bomb.
Pakistan is in the middle of an intense wave of terror attacks. Last week, a crowded Sufi shrine in the country was blown up by a suicide bomber. At least 80 people were killed and some 250 people were injured in the blast. Amaq News Agency announced that ISIS claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in the city of Sehwan.
