According to a CNN report published on Monday, Deputy Director Andrew McCabe announced that he will be stepping down from his position. McCabe is finishing his post a few weeks earlier than expected, as FBI sources told CNN that the move came as a shock.

McCabe entered into office after US President Donald Trump fired FBI Deputy Director James Comey and has recently been targeted with allegations from Trump and other Republican officials regarding the FBI investigation into Russia’s intervention in the 2016 presidential election.

Furthermore, McCabe was criticized for his wife’s political affiliation after she ran for political office and received donations from an organization aligned with Hillary Clinton. As a result, McCabe’s political neutrality was questioned during the FBI investigation into Clinton’s emails.
