The former deputy IDF Chief of Staff said in a speech that the Iranian threat is considered far bigger to Israel than ISIS, and that the US would have to assist Israel in order to achieve military victory over Tehran.

Maj. Gen. Yair Golan, the IDF’s former deputy Chief of Staff, says Israel would strongly require assistance from the US in order to achieve military victory over Iran.

The unusual statement was made when Golan was taking questions from the audience during a speech at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

“In today’s world, where threats spread quickly to every corner of the world via the internet, terror cells, streams of refugees – our cooperation (with the US) must be tighter than ever,” Golan said.

“From Israel’s point of view, the Iranian threat is much bigger than ISIS, because the Iranians are more sophisticated and more civilized,” he said. “This is why I believe we will not be able to defeat them by ourselves.”

“Just look at how they’re operating in the region,” Golan added. “They work in a very clever way, always trying to invest as little as possible. And if they have to, they prefer to invest money over blood. For blood they use their affiliates.”
