French security forces are searching for a driver who attempted to ram into a group of soldiers near a military base in southern France on Thursday. No injuries were reported.
The suspected ramming attack reportedly took place in Varces-Allières-et-Risset at the base of the French Alps around 9am local time. The attacker, whose motive currently remains unknown, fled the scene and is at large.
The country has been on high alert this past week, following the ISIS-inspired terrorist attack that took place in southwestern France last week, during which four people were murdered by terrorist Redouane Lakdim, 25, near the city of Carcassonne. Meanwhile, Paris police are still investigating the murder of Mireille Knoll, the 85-year-old Holocaust survivor who was slain by two attackers in her Paris apartment on Friday. At her funeral on Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron vowed to fight anti-Semitism that has been on the rise in the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, Macron said the attacker “murdered an innocent, vulnerable woman because she was Jewish.” By doing that, the president said, “he desecrated our sacred values and history.”
