Shortly after the reports about Hamas claiming that Israel proposed a prisoner exchange deal, the relatives of Lieutenant Hadar Goldin and Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul expressed optimism about the possibility of such a deal being made.
“After two and a half years of disappointments, we’ve learned that there’s no need to be impressed by words, rumors and headlines,” said the Goldin family in a statement. “We as a family understand that there is now an opportunity to return Hadar and Oron to Israel. Prime Minister Netanyahu knows exactly what we are talking about. We continue to demand that the Israeli government use all of the resources at its disposal to put intense pressure on Hamas. Only this kind of pressure will show results.”
Zehava Shaul said that she expects Netanyahu and the Israeli ministers “to act as if their sons were the ones sent to fight in Gaza in order to protect the State of Israel and [now] they are the ones being held captive by Hamas.”
