On Monday, Israel’s Education Minister Naftali Bennett announced that writer David Grossman would be awarded Israel’s 2018 Prize for Literature. The annual award is regarded as the highest cultural and literature award in Israel.
Grossman is to receive the award on Israel’s 70th Independence Day on April 19. The announcement welcomed great responses throughout Israeli society. Israeli President Reuven Rivlin stated that Grossman’s win is “an expression of gratitude from the entire nation.”
This honor comes after Grossman received the International Man Booker award in 2017 for his novel A Horse Walks Into a Bar. Grossman’s books have been translated into over 30 languages.
