Alarmed by recent statements from the Hamas leadership in Gaza about the terrorist group’s intention to continue building tunnels and firing rockets at Israel, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon today (Saturday) said such remarks and actions do “serious disservice” to the people of Gaza and put at risk the international community’s humanitarian and development efforts.

The UN Secretary General is alarmed by recent Hamas statements stressing that they will continue to build terror tunnels and fire rockets into Israeli civilian areas. “Such statements and actions put at risk reconstruction, humanitarian and development efforts by the international community as well as by the Palestinian and Israeli authorities. They also do a serious disservice to the long-suffering people of Gaza,” said UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in a statement issued by his spokesperson.

“After three devastating conflicts in seven years, the people in Gaza and the people of Southern Israel deserve a chance for peace and development,” the UN Secretary General continued, underscoring that every effort must be made to improve the living conditions of the people of Gaza. “The UN Secretary General reiterates his condemnation of terrorism in all its manifestations,” the statement from the spokesperson of the UN Secretary General proclaimed.

Earlier this week, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon spoke about the wave of terror attacks against Israelis in recent months and stated that they are the result of Palestinian frustration due to the Israeli occupation.

Netanyahu attacked Ban’s remarks and claimed that they support terror. “There is no justification for terrorism,” stated Netanyahu. “The Palestinian terrorists don’t want to build a state; they want to destroy a state and they state that proudly. They want to murder Jews everywhere and they state that proudly.”
