Clashes occurred at the funeral the month-old baby who drowned in Ashdod after the infant was forcibly taken out of an ambulance by Haredi men and taken into a private vehicle for burial. The child was brought to rest on Thursday after undergoing a court-ordered autopsy that sparked protests by hundreds of Haredi Jews on Tuesday.
The baby died on Monday at a hotel in Ashdod when his mother was bathing him in a jacuzzi in the family’s room. The family remains in custody and are being interrogated by the police. Family members speaking to reporters on Thursday denounced the parents’ arrest and claimed they did not detect anything suspicious in the couple.
“I know this family well. This is a very civilized family, everything was completely fine,” a relative told Hadashot News. “They just went on a vacation – to rest on Passover – he took his wife to a hotel in Ashdod like a good husband.”
