An Israeli Arab from the northern city of Umm el Fahm was sentenced by the Jerusalem District Court to three and a half years in prison for his involvement in the transfer of funds to finance the Islamic terrorist group Hamas.
Under an agreement with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Daraam Jabarin pled guilty to aiding a terrorist organization, prohibited use of property for terrorist purposes and carrying out prohibited transactions.
According to the indictment, Jabarían was in constant contact with Hamas officials in Turkey, whom he visited on frequent business trips. In Turkey, Jabarin received cash to deliver to his Hamas contacts in Israel, for payment of salaries to terrorists.
On four different occasions, Jabarían handed Hamas between 50,000 and 100,000 euros per trip. In total he gave approximately 300,000 euros until he was arrested last January.
Jabarin confessed to his interrogators that he was recruited by Zaher Jabarin, a Hamas terrorist who was released in the exchange for the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Zaher is responsible for the Hamas budget and promotes terrorist operations in the West Bank;under the orders of Salah Arouri, who holds the post of deputy head operations in Judea and Samaria.
