Minister of Transport and Intelligence Israel Katz welcomed the decision of US President Donald Trump to close the offices of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in Washington.
“This decision follows the decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the decision to stop funding UNRWA, which is an organization that perpetuates the intended right of return for refugees,” Katz said. “All these steps reach the roots of the conflict and tell the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, that he cannot continue his double talk.
“Trump is peeling the Palestinian lie like an onion, layer by layer. The PA education system teaches children that the ‘Great Palestine’ is from the Jordan River to the sea. Trump says: ‘If you want to sit down and negotiate, do it from a realistic place: Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and there is no right of return. Abbas’s answer shows exactly what he thinks about these issues”.
As to whether he believes Trump’s recent decisions will lead to another round of violence, Katz said:
“Security coordination between Israel and the Palestinian security forces happens first and foremost because it serves Abbas. He does not do it because he loves Zion, but because he understands that if the Shabak (General Security Service) is not dealing with it and leading the activities against Hamas in Judea and Samaria (West Bank), he will be the first to be disposed of”
Katz also criticized the Israeli left that opposes Trump’s actions.
“They are so immersed in supporting the Palestinian narrative and blindly believing what Palestinian leaders say that they don’t really accept reality.”’
