In a first public appearance since his release from prison, Israel’s former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Wednesday he wishes for his successor, Benjamin Netanyahu, to “end his tenure soon and in a respectful way.”

Speaking at a leadership convention in Tel Aviv, Olmert, who stepped down in 2008 in the midst of several corruption probes involving him, stressed that he does not wish ill for Netanyahu on a personal level.

When asked whether he has remained in touch with Netanyahu, Olmert said, “Up until 2009 we had been in touch quite often. Since then I don’t recall any contact with him, but that doesn’t mean we are on bad terms.”

On Tuesday, JOL reported that police are expected to wrap up their investigations into two corruption cases involving Netanyahu as early as next week.
