At an event for Israel’s ambassadors in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and America on Sunday, Israeli Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Tzipi Hotovely praised the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and slammed the UN aid agency for Palestinian refugees.

“Israel’s 70th year will be marked by the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” she said. “For the first time, the Foreign Affairs Ministry is working on the important tasks of moving foreign missions to their natural place in Israel’s capital. The matter of moving the embassy alongside the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital will be placed at the top of the diplomatic agenda of all countries.”

Hotovely then mentioned the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). “The UNRWA era is over,” she declared. “I want to present to every country that contributes to UNRWA the Israeli demand to divert the funds to humanitarian organizations and stop cultivating the idea of the Palestinian right of return, which keeps the conflict alive.”

“For many years, the international community ignored the Palestinian demand of return and created a distorted reality in which Palestinians continue to be considered refugees who are asking to return to Yafo, Acre, Lod and Ramla and essentially striving to destroy the State of Israel,” she continued. “This approach does not reflect the refugee criteria under international law, which states that a refugee status is not inherited.”
