An aircraft of the Israeli Air Force targeted an armed Palestinian near the security fence in northern Gaza, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit reported Thursday. The aircraft shot at the terrorist as he was approaching the border overnight.
“The IDF will not allow any harm to the security of Israeli civilians and will continue to operate against terrorists who are involved in acts of terror,” the IDF said in a statement. Meanwhile, tensions continue to be high along the border as Gazans prepare for renewed protests on Friday.
Gazans have dubbed the upcoming protest “tire day,” during which thousands of tires will be burned near the border in order to create a wall of smoke and obscure the vision of IDF soldiers on the other side of the fence. In addition, protesters were instructed to carry mirrors and lasers to be pointed towards IDF snipers.
In the massive “March of Return” event last week, at least 17 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire and 700 were reportedly injured. The IDF said that the people who were shot had approached the security fence and were threatening the soldiers on the other side of the border.
