Watch: IDF arrests Ahed Tamimi
Israeli security forces have arrested Ahed Tamimi, 16, the Palestinian girl who was seen slapping an IDF soldier in a video, that has gone viral. The arrest took place during a raid on the Tamimi home on Monday night. She was taken into questioning.
Ahed’s father, Bassem Tamimi, wrote on his Facebook page shortly after the raid, stating that IDF forces have arrested his daughter. He also accused the Israeli media of attacking Ahed after she stopped a soldier in front of their house and said that the security forces confiscated their mobile phones and computers.
“The Palestinian girl was involved in disorderly conduct on Friday in Nabi Salih, when around 200 Palestinians threw rocks towards IDF forces,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement. “The investigation reveals that the commander of the force, who was given operational judgment, acted professionally by not getting dragged into violence. However, the Palestinian women could have been arrested on the spot because physical violence was used by them and also because of the fact that they attempted to prevent the soldiers from carrying out their assignment.”

In the video, Ahed is seen approaching the soldiers along with two other girls and then hitting them. The soldiers remained in their place initially and did not respond. The women are heard in the video shouting at the soldiers “don’t stand here” and “leave” and then rejoicing when the soldiers eventually left.
