For the first time, IDF infantry soldiers will receive a course in Arabic. The soldiers use unconventional tools such as watching TV series and listen to songs in order to learn.
The training course of the IDF Kfir Brigade infantry soldiers, who mainly operate in the West Bank and are in daily contact with the Palestinian population, has been upgraded and now includes extensive lessons in spoken Arabic.
The brigade realized that learning Arabic is a tool that will help the soldiers during their operational activities in the West Bank. The IDF hopes that this might help bridge the gap between the soldiers and the residents and prevent tensions.

Other than learning the language, the soldiers learned about the Arab culture, the structure of Arab society and simulated operational activity while speaking in Arabic. The vocabulary is learned using unconventional tools such as watching episodes from the famous Israeli TV series ‘Fauda’, the movie ‘Bethlehem’ and listening to popular Arabic songs.
