The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit has announced the new appointments for the 2018 general staff. Commander of the Northern Corps and the Military Colleges Major General Tamir Heiman will replace Major General Herzl Halevi as the IDF Chief of Military Intelligence when the latter becomes the new commander of the IDF Southern Command.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman approved today (Monday) IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot’s series of appointments for the 2018 General Staff, according to the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit. These appointments will make up the chief of staff’s new team, from which the leading candidates for the role of deputy chief of staff will be selected.
Such new appointments include that of IDF Chief of Military Intelligence Major General Herzl Halevi, who will serve as the new commander of the IDF Southern Command and will be succeeded by Commander of the Northern Corps and the Military Colleges Major General Tamir Heiman. In addition, the head of the IDF’s Cyber Security and Defense Directorate, Major General Nadav Padan, will be appointed the commander of the Central Command.
Furthermore, Lt. Col. David Shapira, who commanded the Shimshon Battalion of the Kfir Brigade at the time of the Elor Azaria incident, will be promoted and appointed brigade commander of the IDF Judea and Samaria Division.
