Dvir Sorek, a 19-year-old Israeli soldier, was found stabbed this morning at the entrance to Kibbutz Migdal Oz in the West Bank’s Gush Etzion.

The young man was part of a special IDF program that combined religious study and military service. Dvir was kidnapped in the middle of the night while on his was on his way back to his yeshiva.

“Thirty minutes before he was murdered he was in touch with us while on a bus en route to the yeshiva,” said the director of his Yeshiva Rabbi Shlomo Wilk, on military radio.

“He went to Jerusalem to buy gifts for his rabbis, and was found squeezing these books that he had bought for them,” he said.

Rabbi Sarel Rosenblatt, a teacher at the Yeshiva where Sorek attended said,“He was an amazing man, very sensitive, smart, modest, who fused wisdom and quiet… This is a man who at the beginning of the year saw an Arab walking around the area with a donkey that looked unwell, sick, so he offered to buy the donkey. He bought it, treated it, and sent it away,”

There is currently a wide-scale manhunt to find Dvir’s murderer.
