The IDF will promote changes in the policy of joint combat service for male and female soldiers amid an ongoing conflict with religious Zionist rabbis.
In Thursday talks between army officials and representatives of the religious Zionist community, it was decided to schedule a meeting with IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot that will revolve around the rabbis’ claims that religious male soldiers face problems when serving alongside women.
Earlier this week, lewd comments about female soldiers made by Rabbi Yigal Levinstein, the head of the pre-army religious academy in the West Bank settlement of Eli, sparked a public outrage. On Wednesday, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman told Levinstein he must resign from his position or else his ministry will stop recognizing his yeshiva.
