Today (Sunday), 13 people were killed when an Indonesian Air Force Hercules plane crashed in the eastern province of Papua. The plane crashed during a military exercise.

The C-130 Hercules plane departed from Timika and hit a mountain next to its destination. Local search and rescue teams arrived at the scene and transferred all the casualties to Wamena.

As the district of Papua is remote and mountainous, flight transportation is common. However, this is not the first time that a plane crashed in the area. Only a year ago, a similar case happened when a military transport plane crashed and caused the death of over 100 people. Following the incident, Indonesian President Joko Widodo promised to renew the military’s aircraft.
