Watch: Iran marks National Army Day with massive parade
Iran is marking its National Army Day today (Tuesday) with a special parade in Tehran. Aside from the displays of ammunition and the Russian S-300 surface-to-air missile system, the parade featured speeches delivered by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan.
In accordance with the parade tradition, Rouhani kicked off the event. He stated that his country’s military capabilities do not pose a threat to anyone and are only intended for defensive purposes. “Our policies call for the avoidance of tensions and conflicts,” Rouhani said. “However, we need to remain vigilant in light of the plots that others are conspiring against us.”
Rouhani noted that during his term, the military budget was increased by 145% and accused other countries in the region, without mentioning them by name, of supporting terrorism and ignoring international law. “The Iranian army is a symbol of order and faith,” he said.

Similar statements were made by Dehghan, who said that Iran’s enemies cannot afford to carry out military actions against the country due to the army’s high level of readiness. According to Dehghan, the Iranian army has a major advantage over the hostile entities that want to threaten the Iranian regime: “The high level of readiness has prevented our enemies from carrying out a military operation or even invading Iran.” He stressed that Tehran has developed “the ability to quickly and decisively respond to the enemy’s audacity.”
Regarding this matter, Rouhani said that he is proud of the latest Iranian military purchases. Ground forces of Iran’s military also participated in the parade and displayed the latest Iranian military technology including drones and missiles.
