U.S.-backed Iraqi forces regained control over the airport in Mosul, Iraq, this morning after a 4-hour battle. The successful operation is believed to be a major achievement in the Iraqi forces’ battle against ISIS in the city.

Iraqi forces backed by the U.S. Army expelled ISIS terrorists from the airport in Mosul this morning (Thursday), marking an important moment for the Iraqi troops in the battle for Mosul.

The Iraqi operation was conducted with the support of U.S. jets and drones. ISIS terrorists had heavily mined the complex that is no longer in use. Serious clashes between Iraqi soldiers and ISIS terrorists were reported.

According to news reports, the operation took several hours. ISIS terrorists continued to fire mortars at the airport even after the Iraqi forces regained control of the complex.

The battle for Mosul was launched in October by the Iraqi government and the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS.
