- MK Yair Lapid calls for criminal investigation into German submarine deal
- Mike Huckabee denies after meeting with Trump that he will be next US ambassador to Israel
- Minister gives expensive gift to Russian PM which could lead to trouble with U.S. and Russia
MK Yair Lapid called on Saturday for a criminal investigation regarding the German Submarine deal. He said that it was bad if Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu didn’t know that his personal lawyer David Shimron brokered the deal but if he did know about it that was much worse. He added that there were too many question marks therefore Israel had an obligation to investigate because the Israeli public had a right to know the truth. The head of the National Security Council Yaacov Nagel said in an interview to channel 2 news the purchase of German submarines was done in an orderly and professional process with no outside influence and with the recommendation of all the professional bodies in the security establishment but he confirmed that former defense minister Moshe Yaalon was not informed about the secret deal.
President-elect Donald Trump took to Twitter on Saturday to complain that his vice-president elect, Mike Pence, was “harassed” Friday night by the cast of hit Broadway show “Hamilton,” when one of the actors made a post-performance plea for the incoming administration to protect the rights of minorities. Former Arkansas governor and failed Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee denied Friday that he was tapped by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as the next US ambassador to Israel.
Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel last week helped to set back cutting-edge Israeli research and also apparently overstepped government regulations on gifts by giving the only scientific research helicopter of its kind in the country to Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev. The minister’s impulse to hand over the NIS 200,000 piece of equipment — purchased by the Volcani Agricultural Research Organization, with research funds that did not come from the ministry — came during a tour of agricultural technology at the institute, a source from the institute said. Now it emerges that Israel may run into trouble with the United States for handing over the aircraft, if it is proved that it has been developed with American technology.
