A terrible fire broke out yesterday that engulfed the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The fire caused the collapse of the 850 yr. old church’s roof and iconic gothic spire.
The Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu along with the rest of the country has lamented the terrible calamity, and are expressing its solidarity with the French people and Christians worldwide.
“I express my deep sorrow over the fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, a cultural and religious heritage site of France and of all humanity. We hope the firefighting efforts will succeed,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

President Reuven Rivlin also expressed solidarity with France “The Notre Dame [cathedral] is among the most beautiful of Paris’s symbols and of France’s in general, but also one of the most important to any cultured person.”
“Last January, I looked out over the Parisian skyline, all the more beautified by the cathedral’s spire. Our hearts are with the citizens of France and the tales of Notre Dame, true and fictional, in prayer that they will endure forever,” Rivlin said
After the fire was controlled during the night the fire brigade assured the public that the main structure has been saved, reported the AFP Agency.
Soon after, French President Emmanuel Macron said that “the worst had been avoided” and promised that the Cathedral will be rebuilt.
