Israeli police officers arrested on Tuesday a 52-year-old Ofakim resident who has been charged with the rape of a 15-year-old girl in the US. Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked ordered that the suspect be brought to a district court so that a judge can rule on the extradition request.

Officers from the Ofakim police station, who were accompanied by Interpol officials, made the arrest. According to the indictment that was filed against him in Pennsylvania, the rape took place in September 2004, when the minor was at the suspect’s store with a friend to buy clothes.

On Thursday, the suspect will appear in front of a Jerusalem District Court judge for a remand hearing.
