This morning, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman inaugurated a new IDF light infantry base for male and female combat soldiers.
The new base
This morning (Wednesday), Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman rejected the criticism against the IDF regarding female recruitment to combat positions and stated that the military doesn’t operate under feminist ideology but only takes into account operational considerations.
“The IDF is only linked to one agenda,” Lieberman stated at the inauguration speech of a new joint military base. “The security of Israel. That is why the operational consideration is above all else.”

The new military base, which was inaugurated today, is the first of its kind for the basic training of male and female soldiers of the light infantry battalions. The first period will begin its basic training in the new facility, which includes various adjustments designed to improve the service conditions for female soldiers.

About 60 million shekels (approximately 16.5 million dollars) were invested in the construction of the base and in the next stage, the IDF is expected to invest another 40 million shekels (11 million dollars) in the training base.

The new base will include specific physical training for the female combat soldiers and new gear was purchased to fit the orthopedic and structural aspects of the female’s body. In addition, there is more medical staff to suit the needs of the soldiers.
