Officials in Jerusalem declared hours before the Paris Conference: “International conferences and UN resolutions only distance peace because they encourage the Palestinians to continue to refuse to engage in direct negotiations with Israel.”

Ahead of the Paris Conference tomorrow, officials in Jerusalem proclaimed: “This is an unnecessary and futile convention.  This is not the way to make peace. This conference is not binding upon Israel.”

The officials added that “international conferences and UN resolutions only distance peace because they encourage the Palestinians to continue to refuse to engage in direct negotiations with Israel. The only way to obtain peace is via direct negotiations between the two sides as was done with Egypt and Jordan. If the countries convening in Paris really want to advance peace, they should pressure Abu Mazen to respond to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s invitation to have direct negotiations.”

“The claim that everything beyond the 1967 lines is Palestinian territory is not correct,” they noted. “This is not the reality and it will continue to lead on the pathway to nowhere. There is no greater absurdity than defining the Western Wall and the Jewish Quarter in Jerusalem as occupied Palestinian territory.”

According to them, “The settlements aren’t an obstacle to negotiations. Only excuses by the Palestinian Authority that prevent negotiations are. The international community is committed to discuss this issue and other core issues in the framework of direct negotiations and not separately. The Palestinian Authority continues to educate their people to hate and murder Israelis and to annihilate the State of Israel.  The conflict was never about a Palestinian state but about the Jewish state that the Palestinians refuse to recognize.”
