A 56-year-old Israeli tourist was killed yesterday (Tuesday) in Rishikesh, India after he fell off a cliff during a hike. According to the local reports, the Israeli’s body was retrieved today and transferred to a nearby city.
The Israeli was traveling in the country with his wife, their son and two of their friends. The four had no choice but to continue hiking until they reached an area with cellphone reception in order to call the authorities for help. The Israeli Foreign Affairs Ministry contacted the man’s wife and is helping her arrange the trip back to Israel along with her husband’s body.
According to the local police department, the five Israelis left Gangotri on Monday and traveled toward Gomukh, one of the primary sources of the Ganges River. From there, the Israelis planned to climb Mount Shivling, which is a trek of 18 kilometers (approximately 11 miles).
