Under Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan’s direction, the Israel Police shut down a conference in East Jerusalem because several Palestinian Authority representatives were supposed to partake in the event. Police officers stormed the hotel where the conference was supposed to be held and prevented it from taking place. “I will continue to act vigorously in order to prevent any political foothold of the Palestinians in Jerusalem,” Erdan told Channel 2 News Online.
“The Palestinian Authority’s activity against the settlements in East Jerusalem is part of a plan to harm our sovereignty throughout Jerusalem,” Erdan continued, adding that the PA continues to “terrorize Arabs who would sell real estate to Jews in the city.”
At the conference, which was to take place at St George Hotel, the participants were supposed to discuss the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf properties and the Christian buildings in the city. However, it appears that they were also planning to discuss the sale of properties to Jewish residents in East Jerusalem, according to a tip that the Israel Police received.
Over the past two years, the Jerusalem District Police has shut down several PA events in East Jerusalem pursuant to directives from Erdan.
