It is unlikely that one will come upon a person in Israel who doesn’t know the name Eran Zahavi. Today (Tuesday), the Israeli soccer superstar celebrates his 30th birthday.

Zahavi started his incredible career in Hapoel Tel Aviv, where he gained recognition for some incredible achievements, including a historic last-minute goal that brought the club its 13th championship and 4th double (cup and championship).

After leaving for a couple of years to the Italian Serie A club Palermo to try out his luck in Europe, he returned to Israel to make history once again.

In January 2013, Zahavi signed for Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel’s derby rival. That year, one can say he was central to returning the team’s championship after 10 years. However, the champion almost single-handedly brought Maccabi its next two championships as the league’s top scorer and led the team to some unbelievable moments in Europe.

Last year, Zahavi moved to China to play for Guangzhou R&F for a reported $12.5 million dollars over 2.5 years. After half a year, his contract was already upgraded. Many thought the move was just about money and judged the player. However, today, Zahavi leads the Chinese top-scorer board with 18 goals in 18 league games, scoring 4 goals in his last game.
