Israeli ultra-Orthodox Knesset members intend to promote an enforcement track for Sabbath observance among the Israeli public, tapes obtained by the Israel News Company reveal. During a United Hatzalah of Israel private conference, United Torah Judaism MK Moshe Gafni was recorded talking about the agreements that he and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reached and about the change in Israel’s status quo in favor of the country’s ultra-Orthodox minority.
“The agreement was, since the Interior Ministry has hundreds maybe even more inspectors who deal with infiltrators and are gentile inspectors, the subject of enforcement will be paved within two months,” Gafni said. “This track is a positive and vital path,” Gafni continued in regard to transferring the enforcement of Sabbath observance from so-called infiltrators.
Later on, Gafni asks the attendees that his remarks do not leave the room as it could “cause damage,” adding that “not only are we maintaining the status quo, but we’re also promoting the topic of Sabbath observance.”
